| Effective April 28th 2009 Just Lawyers LLP has handed over the conduct of this law practice to Just Lawyers Ltd a Company registered in England and Wales ; the Registered office remains the same at the KBC Harrow Exchange in Harrow but we have a new Company Number i.e. 06848334. The Solicitors Regulation Authority have awarded us recognition under Reference No.509920 ; Our Professional Insurers have noted these matters on our Policy.

| This weeks Software Solutions Guide for Solicitors says that text mesages to clients as in "Matter Updates" is the way to go and advocates scanning paper documents ; Err .. excuse us we did that in 2006 when we were the 1st lawyers in the UK to adopt those 2 techniques. Now about those Smart Phone VideoGrams of ours ? |

| If all us ordinary folk are obliged to pay fees to Lawyers to get the forms right in e.g. conveyancing why should the big banks and lenders not be obliged to get it exactly right when it comes to signing us up for Credit Agreements ? | Lasting Powers of Attorney - another way ? |

| With the newly ‘prescribed’ ( Since October 2007) Lasting Powers of Attorney LPA’s as they are now affectionately known ( may costs up to £1,000 for one incuding Court Fee!) make a heavy burden on the Attorney and may become unnecessarily restrictive on the Giver of such an Attorney. After (mandatory) registration you will no longer by yourself be able to enter into contracts, draw your own money from the bank, make gifts, or even make a Will Revocation is possible but again is complex and difficult. At Just Lawyers we believe that widespread but perhaps ill informed slavish adherence to the new forms of LPA are being prescribed as the only possible successor to the older Enduring Power (EPA). Mostly the law firms that carry these now long and slightly complex documents into effect do so on a simple perception of their client planning for old age or possible physical disability and inconvenience. | Anyone reporting an alleged crime to police cannot now be sued for defamation by the person they accuse from the moment they make the complaint, following a Court of Appeal ruling.The decision in Westcott v Westcott arose after Worcestershire magistrate, Richard Westcott, tried to sue his former daughter-in-law, Dr Sarah Westcott, for slander and libel over allegations that he assaulted her and his baby grandson.Last October, the High Court rejected his claim, saying her oral and written complaints to the police were protected by absolute privilege. Mr Westcott appealed, but the appeal court upheld the original judgment.Matthew Brandis, a partner at B P Collins, which represented Dr Westcott, says it’s a significant decision because until now a person was only protected from a defamation claim once the police had begun to investigate an allegation and not at the time of the initial complaint.He says: “This is a very important ruling and a victory for freedom of speech. It is everybody’s right to be able to make a complaint to the police without fear of being sued in relation to that complaint and now the Court of Appeal has made it crystal clear where the law stands.” This News is verbatim courtesy of the New law Journal |

| If you spend a lifetime body and soul for spouse and kids and earn those elusive Millions net of tax over the decades its all tax free now ? Right ? They wouldn't tax us again would they? No? Yes! You may be shocked to learn - as are many children - that after a Husband and Wife both die (and with spiraling house prices in the SE its easy to be worth over half a million dead or alive) the Inland Revenue ( now HM Customs & Revenue) wait till you have both been buried and then typically demand 120 thousand pounds Inheritance Tax. They don't even allow time to get Probate nor even to sell the Home... . The latest Budget statement about the so called new band at £600,000 does nothing to help the situation ; in our view its actually another trap for the unwary and /or married and non married couples and their families
